A Day of Opera: Alekseenok Conducts Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk and Das Rheingold

Vitali Alekseenok recently led two major performances at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein within 24 hours, conducting Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk with the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker and Wagner’s Das Rheingold with the Duisburger Philharmoniker.

“Both scores, spanning a total of 1,133 pages, require full concentration,” Alekseenok noted. “Switching between them in just a few hours takes real effort.”

This intense schedule reflects the unique structure of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, which operates across two cities with two orchestras, a wide-ranging repertoire, and a large ensemble of artists. Alekseenok continues to lead a diverse program of new productions, revivals, and concerts in the 2024/25 season.
